I just love it when animal owners ask for their cherished pets to be captured on canvas and pride myself on achieving a realistic likeness and portraying that individual character of a clients’ pet!
Using the mediums of acrylic, pastel and watercolour is of course my client’s choice and I will advise which medium would best suit the painting. I work from not one photograph of a pet, but a few, this helps me determine, the character, personality, colours of fur etc., so when the artwork is complete it will be a good likeness and the uniqueness that is your special friend.
Nothing beats being commissioned to do a pet portrait, it’s an honour as it sadly sometimes means the four legged friend is no longer with us. As a dog owner and lover of animals I have painted wildlife and birds my whole life and have studied their form closely: the way they lie, cock their head, their poise and stare and I work tirelessly to capture the spirit and true character in each creature I paint.
When possible I love to meet my subject, and his or her owner but more often than not I work from a series of photographs which help me get to know each animal’s personality and achieve as true a likeness as possible.
I work in a range of mediums, in oils, acrylic or pastel and I’m happy to spend time getting to know owners about their special friend so that their portrait will be a much treasured painting.
If you have a pet that you’d love a portrait of or would like to give this as a gift to a friend, give me a call or shoot me an email and let’s discuss what you’re after in more detail – after all Christmas is coming and this could make a gorgeous gift for a dog lover. ????
I love nothing more than to be commissioned by an individual or a local business; it’s the greatest honour to be asked. In addition to pet portraits, where I paint from a photograph (or better still a series of photographs – rest assured I don’t use tracing equipment) I am happy to be briefed on a unique piece of art for a particular hanging space, for a Bed & Breakfast or tourism venue, a winery or your home.
I paint scenes from the Yarra Valley region, of iconic buildings and views, businesses and buildings – such as the set of four cards I did for Paynes Rise of their homestead and outbuildings, or the series for Art at Linden Gate of their Bed & Breakfast.
I did a commission of a large canvas commemorating Flanders’ Poppies for a private individual and was then commissioned to paint 10 scenes for Rayners Stone Fruit Farm, once his blossoms were out in the orchards.
