My Red Tailed Black Cockatoo Has Flown the Studio

and now lives with Soozie in Yarra Glen

For years she’s been besotted with my pastel Red Tailed Black Cockatoo

Soozie has been one of my acrylic students for 2 years and from the moment she first saw it in my studio, has always stared longingly at the pastel I did of a red tailed black cockatoo that I’d photographed up at the Healesville Sanctuary (I go up there regularly with my sketch book and camera and so many of my works are inspired by pencil sketches or pictures I’ve taken up there).  She’s a big fan of my work and is always heaping me with compliments and often commented that one day she’d like to have the black cocky hanging above her mantlepiece – and yesterday, her dream became a reality.

At 97cm x 73 cm and beautifully framed by Michelle Tanner, (instagram.com/micheletheframer) I chose to do it as a pastel so that the feathers of this magnificent Australian bird have depth and layering.  And as you can see it looks fantastic in its new home in Yarra Glen.
